Spider mites are very common on houseplants, balcony and terrace plants, all kinds of fruits and also on ornamental plants and shrubs. If you look closely, you can see small spider mites crawling on the underside of the leaves. Because they suck plant cells empty, you get yellow dots or spots on top to see. In some houseplants the edges of the leaves yellow. In case of a serious infestation, webs are formed between the leaves.

If you do nothing against spider mites, the plants will eventually die. Have you noticed spider mites on your plants? You can control spider mites biologically with predatory mites.

Forni-mite: Predatory mites against spider mites
Forni-mite contains predatory mites of the type Neoseiulus Californicus. These predatory mites suck the spider mites empty. You can see this by the empty insect skins that remain on the underside of the leaves. They eat both adult spider mites, eggs and nymphs.

When to use Forni-mite spider mites?
Spider mites are present in the plants.
For use indoors, in the greenhouse or outdoors during the summer months.
Can control spider mites on houseplants.
Can control spider mites on vegetables such as eggplants, cucumbers, peppers, beans, tomatoes and cantaloupe.
Can be used on strawberries, grapes and fruit trees.
Works at high temperatures and low humidity.
In case the plants have pollen, you can use Forni-mite preventively. This can be done by spreading a tube of predatory mites every 2 to 3 weeks or by hanging up Soni-mite breeding bags.

How to use Forni-mite predatory mites?
Predatory mites actively seek out spider mites. However, they have a small radius of action and the following elements should be taken into account when releasing them:

Release in the spider mite hot spots and a few meters in front and behind the hot spot.
Sprinkle the predatory mite filler directly on the leaf if the leaves are large enough. Filler with predatory mites should not be allowed to get on the ground.
If you have plants with small leaves, use bio boxes or coffee filter bags.
First hang the bioboxes or coffee filter bags well distributed in the plants and then distribute the predatory mites over the bioboxes.
If necessary repeat the treatment after two weeks. The fastest results are obtained when you use predatory mites in the beginning of an infestation.
Combine with another predatory mite?
Forni-mite can be combined well with Phyto-mite, which is why we also offer it in a duo-package. These two mites work well together. They have different qualities, so as a duo they reinforce each other.

How many predatory mites do I need?
This depends mainly on your infestation. You need to make sure that the army of attackers is large enough to deal with the spider mites. Expulsions can range from 50 to 250 predatory mites per m2. The sooner you take action, the fewer predatory mites you will need.

Spider mites on houseplants
If you have a few small plants that are lightly infested, then a tube of 500 predatory mites is usually sufficient. If you have several large houseplants that are heavily infested, you will easily need 2000 predatory mites or sometimes even more.

Spider mites on vegetables
Below is an indication of what you need to release, based on plants of up to 60cm in height. This includes peppers, eggplants, strawberries, etc. In a crop of 180 cm (eg cucumber or melons) triple all quantities of predatory mites!

Light spider mite infestation shows little leaf damage and no webs: 30-50 predatory mites/m².
Moderate spider mite infestation shows multiple leaves with yellow dots or spots: 50-100 predatory mites/m².
Heavy red spider mite infestation shows webs and many yellow leaves: Cut the worst affected leaves from your crop and release up to 250 predatory mites/m².

Also in fruit trees such as peaches, kiwi etc. estimate the number of m2 leaf surface and multiply this with the number of predatory mites in relation to the infestation.

Tip: After two weeks you should see a clear improvement. If this is not the case, use predatory mites again.

Can I store predatory mites?
If the predatory mites arrive at your premises, it is best to introduce them as soon as possible. If this is not possible you can store them in the refrigerator at 8°C for one or two days. Attention, usually the fridge is much colder!

Spraying in combination with predatory mites?
Spraying chemical or natural products (e.g. neem oil) in combination with predatory mites is not a good idea
