Description

ORIUS ROOFWANTS against TRIPS
Do you see deformities or brown spots on the underside of your houseplants while the top appears to be unblemished? Take a good look to see that you are not suffering from thrips, elongated insects in black, orange or beige color depending on the species. With thick leaves of houseplants you usually see no damage on the top. But on the underside thripses suck plant cells dry and then turn brown.

In vegetable plants such as cucumber and sweet bell pepper, you see initially the leaves grayish spots combined with black dots. The latter are the droppings of thrips. With a severe infestation you will also see corkiness on the fruits.

If you have many adult thripses and many affected plants, Orius is a good choice for you. Want to read more?

What is Orius?
Orius Laevigatus, also known as the flower bug. It is a native insect that you often find naturally in flowers where pollen is present. It is oval shaped and about 2 to 3 mm in size with a beautiful hue in its cover.

Orius predatory bugs eat larvae and adult thrips, not eggs. In addition, Orius also eats aphids, spider mites, whiteflies or moth eggs. Orius is a glutton that kills what it encounters. Orius needs a lot of food. They find their prey by touch, holding them with the front legs and sucking them dry.

We have Orius available in a tube of 100 or 500 bugs and nymphs. The filler consists of buckwheat hulls with food for the bugs during transport. A tube of 100 Orius can be used on 150 m2.

When to use Orius predatory bugs?
Orius only use when there is a lot of thrips infestation. If there is little food and no pollen, Orius dies after a few days.
Use Orius if there are large thrips larvae and adult thrips present. Are there only young thrips larvae and few adult thrips, choose Neoseiulus Cucumeris.
Can be used both indoors and outdoors. Outdoors, however, there is a good chance they will move to flowers because they prefer to dwell there.
Can control thrips on vegetables such as eggplants, cucumbers, peppers and melons.
Can be used on strawberries, grapes and blueberries in tunnel or greenhouse.
How to introduce Orius predatory bugs?
Orius is delivered in a tube with a sprinkler. Introduce the predatory bug as follows:

POINT OF ATTENTION WITH HOUSEPLANTS:
It is necessary to place your infested houseplants together in groups. This allows the predatory bugs to walk from plant to plant and increases their chances of survival. Place flowering plants between houseplants to provide the predatory bug with pollen.
Always release predatory bugs in the evening.
Rotate the tube several times before release so that the predatory bugs are evenly distributed.
In case of sufficiently large leaves: scatter the predatory bugs together with the filler in heaps on the leaves. Spread the tube over 5 and the tube over 10 points in and around the thrips hot spots. Spreading in heaps is important to promote mating before spreading on the plants.
If small leaves: use bioboxes or coffee filter bags and work in the same way as described above. Hang the bioboxes or coffee filter bags scattered and then distribute the predatory bugs. Use 5 bioboxes in case of the tube and 10 bioboxes in case of the tube.
The material should remain on the leaves for a few days because of mating. It is also best to leave the bioboxes hanging for a week.

Combine with another predatory mite?
Orius is always combined with Neoseiulus Cucumeris. These predatory mites eat the eggs and young larvae of thrips. They search the leaves in detail for food unlike Orius predatory bugs which have to rely on what they find. Orius does not eat thrips eggs and often leaves the young larvae alone.

How many predatory bugs do I need?
We count 1 predatory bug per m2 for indoor plants. So you can treat a room of 100 m2 full of plants with 1 tube of Orius 100 pieces. If you have less than 20 infested houseplants, choose Neoseiulus cucumeris and squeeze the adult thrips to death.

Can I store predatory bugs?
Predatory bugs are live insects and are best released the day of receipt. You can keep Orius 1 to 2 days in the supplied packaging in a cool and dark place. Always keep the tube or container lying down. Best storage temperature is between 8°C and 10°C. Do not store colder.

Spraying in combination with predatory bugs?
Combining beneficial insects with a chemical or natural spray (neem, tobacco) is not a good idea.
